2022.01.20 10:09 thepurpleskull Why is going up seen as a positive thing but going down is seen as negative?
Like for example,if someone is doing well another person will most likely say “They are going up in the world” or if the person is not doing well the other person will most likely say “There life is going downhill”. Like why is that?

2022.01.20 10:09 juicemw Getting an A+ after 10 years in the field?
Hey Everyone! Just looking for some opinions on this. Here is a bit of backstory for context;
For the last year I've been working for a school district, as a district technician for 13 schools. Primary detail for me in this role specifically is that I create and maintain an inventory of, and repair Chromebooks and other student/staff laptops. Sprinkle in some Troubleshooting via email and helpdesk tickets. With the pandemic, remote learning, etc. as many of you can assume, device turnover is crazy. When I'm on site at a school to deliver repaired devices or grab some broken ones, I often troubleshoot various other software/hardware or general technical questions for teachers and staff (most of these schools do not have a onsite daily tech, and the small team of "general tier 1" techs for the district are...more known for passing work off and being MIA than doing anything..so for the sake of the user, if they ask me or a ticket accidentally falls into our laps, I handle it. This is mostly because I have just over 10 years in IT experience at this point and can more than likely take care of it pretty easily.
My experience mostly ranges in Helpdesk support or the onsite IT support for educational institutions (about 6 of the years), some of it ranges to much more interesting and difficult roles, (IT support for global companies HQ offices, call center environment tech support, traveled the nation for a major sports network setting up their "remote offices" for on sight filming). With this experience I gathered enough information to always get me by and continue building the resume.
My current job requires an A+ certification to be hired. (To be honest, I'm not really sure why after being in the role for a year I can say 95% of the material would not be utilized regularly). I honestly had thought that I had it several years ago when a previous job had paid for me to do tons of studies and pre-cursor testing for it, but I never took the official exam, and thus, have never been certified. I told this to my boss in our interview process and given my experience he said It's not really an issue. However, in terms of ever leveraging a raise, I need to obtain it. More importantly, I'm currently only being paid about 2k more annually to support 13 schools, than I was to support 1 school a year ago..(moved 700 miles last year back home). I'm also not too certain that the current job I have will be longstanding (5+ years) even if I want it to be, given the structure of the roles and the environment, so I'm trying to be proactive.
My question is... Is there really any value in me obtaining this Cert still? I've been studying for it for the last month or two somewhat heavily. Mostly just taking practice exams, watching all of Messer's videos, Discord study groups, and I'd say 80% of the material I answer correctly just off of prior knowledge before studying at all. Some of the things I know because I've had to do it for work, but I may not know why or the inner workings. I guess either way I will probably still take it for the addition to my resume, because my understanding is A+ is still the entry level cert that opens the door regardless. I'm just not sure how many companies are valuing that over experience now a days, as to me it seems to be inconsistent. I also have some pretty bad test anxiety about failing it, given I haven't had to take a real important test or exam in like...15 years :O.
Thanks to anyone who read this and can offer their opinion. Sorry for the long post :D
Been working in the field for 10+ years with no certs. Considering getting A+ even though it is entry level because it seems like the recommended stepping stone regardless and required by many jobs. Should I?

I am glad that Riot added the feature of multi factor authentication. Before it was only 1 time email verification while logging from an unrecognized device. Now you can set email verification everytime when logging in. This will reduce the probability of account getting hacked. Thank you Riot

2022.01.20 10:08 Shishacoda 160K Advice
Looking for some high level advice here. Story is wife and I (mid twenties) were saving for a down payment on a house in the golden horseshoe, and things just kept getting more silly as time progressed. We have $160,000, I just don't want it all to be lost to inflation.
What should I do with it? Does anyone have reading material they recommend? I can search articles and youtube channels I get it, but maybe the more savvy people would have some resource they really liked. I am ill knowledged in investing and money in general, obviously.
Thanks for your help.

2022.01.20 10:08 Bannakka My, how time flies...
The 'modern era' of Red Dwarf (2009-present) is now longer than the 'classic era' (1988 - 1999).
Series VIII to Back to Earth was a ten-year wait. Back to Earth was released twelve years ago.
Not sure why I'm bringing this up, other than it all feels really weird. S'pose that's growing up with the Dwarfers from the very beginning, for ya.
